Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Quite often all the exercise and dieting in the world cannot get rid of the tummy pouch that results from a lifetime of weight fluctuations or pregnancy. The body changes that a woman experiences to her mid-section with one pregnancy, much less multiple pregnancies, can cause a lot of damage such as sagging skin, stretch marks, and even muscle separation (rectus diastasis) in the abdominal area. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty will correct this. However, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is not only for postpartum women or after childbirth. The procedure can improve the appearance of excess abdominal fat, skin and tissue in any healthy adult.

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck is a common surgical procedure performed by Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Grover on women following childbirth in order to contour and reshape the abdomen and flanks by contouring excessive fat, removing excess skin that may have striae or stretch marks and by tightening loose abdominal muscles. Women who plan to have additional children in the near future should postpone having an abdominoplasty as an additional pregnancy will “stretch out” or separate the abdominal muscles too much and may stretch out the skin.

The procedure may also be performed by Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Grover on men who have lost significant amounts of weight by diet and exercise or following gastric bypass procedures. Some of these patients may not require tightening of the abdominal muscles.

Liposuction (Suction Assisted Lipoplasty, Power Assisted Liposuction)

Liposuction is a surgical technique that is used to contour, sculpt, and remove excess, unwanted fatty deposits from specific areas such as the abdomen, waist, flanks, bra roll, back, hips, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin and neck. It is also referred to as lipoplasty, liposculpture, and microliposuction. Liposuction is not a means for weight loss. Small incisions, usually 3 mm in length, are made in inconspicuous areas and the excess fat is removed with a hollow cannula. Many different techniques exist for liposuction such as tumescent liposuction and superwet liposuction. Different modalities used include traditional lipoplasty, power-assisted liposuction, or ultrasound assisted liposuction.  Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Grover has had extensive experience with all of these techniques and prefers the Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) technique with the superwet and tumescent techniques.

Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Grover has utilized the power assisted liposuction technique since the year 2000. He has performed hundreds of procedures with this technique. Power assisted liposuction is a technique that utilizes a small cannula that is attached to a mechanical hand piece that causes the cannula to vibrate at hundreds of times per minute. This helps to loosen the fat cells and allow for easier, more efficient and less traumatic removal of the fatty tissues with less bruising and discomfort. Power assisted liposuction is performed in conjunction with the tumescent technique. This technique offers many advantages over older techniques such as suction-assisted liposuction (SAL) and ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL). Its benefits include more efficient removal of fatty deposits, especially from more fibrous areas such as the “love-handles” and chest and also from patients who have had previous liposuction and may have additional scar tissue.

Generally speaking, patients with localized areas of excess fatty deposits and have good skin tone and elasticity will have the best results.

Buttock Augmentation

Buttock augmentation can be achieved with either autologous fat grafting (Brazilian Butt Lift), buttock implants or a combination of both to improve one’s buttock aesthetics, augmenting the buttocks and contour. Multiple factors are important in achieving an ideal appearing buttock aesthetics. Cultural ideals are also quite important to consider.

Fat grafting may be performed in patients with some additional fatty deposits which may serve as “donor” sites. However, it is quite common for a patient to present desiring an augmented buttocks but not having any significant amount of fat that can be used for grafting. These patients are ideal candidates for buttock augmentation using soft, solid silicone gel implants.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty, also spelled Labioplasty, is the reduction & beautification of the large labia. The procedure is quickly becoming as common, popular and socially accepted by Beverly Hills patients as a Breast Augmentation, Liposuction and many other cosmetic procedures. Public awareness of Labia surgery has recently grown considerably due to articles featuring this procedure in Elle and New Woman magazines.

Labiaplasty of the large labia, which includes both the labia minora and labia majora, is the reduction of the outward appearance, the correction of asymmetric or misshapen labia or other related female genital irregularities. Many factors can cause discomfort for women, both physically and emotionally, including being born with enlarged labia or the development of enlarged labia through childbirth or age. Dr. Grover’s Beverly Hills Labiaplasty patients are relieved many of the physical and emotional issues by contouring the labia majora (outer lips) and the labia minora (inner lips).

In a lot of cases, many people confuse Labiaplasty with Vaginoplasty but they are not the same. Vaginoplasty or Vaginal Rejuvenation is a procedure that surgically tightens the vagina, enhancing vaginal sensitivity, for women that have experienced multiple childbirths.

In the past, Labiaplasty has been a very sensitive issue, but women today are seeking “vaginal beautification” more often. Also known as Labia sculpting, this procedure reduces the length of the genitalia and use liposuction to change the external appearance of the Mons Pubis (the fatty area under the pubic hair), greatly improving the aesthetic appearance of abnormally enlarged labia. The positive aspects of the procedure go far beyond the physical changes, helping rebuild a woman’s confidence and self-esteem. At a reasonable cost with minimal recovery time, women can look and feel great thanks to this minor outpatient surgical procedure.

ZELTIQ CoolSculpting™

ZELTIQ™ is a global medical device company that developed its patented, noninvasive, clinically proven procedure to selectively reduce fat known as CoolSculpting™. CoolSculpting™ is cleared in the United States, Canada, the European Union, and other international markets for non-invasive fat layer reduction.

CoolSculpting™ is unique in the fact that, unlike most other fat reduction techniques, it involves no needles, surgery or downtime. The procedure is performed by a non-invasive applicator delivering precisely controlled cooling to the treatment area, which is specifically targeting underlying fat. This leaves the surface skin tissue unaffected. CoolSculpting™ procedures usually last about one to two hours.

The CoolSculpting™ breakthrough is based on extensive scientific research demonstrating that fat cells are more susceptible to extreme cold and can be selectively, painlessly, and permanently destroyed using a process known as Cryolipolysis™. Beginning several weeks after the procedure, cooled fat cells begin a process called apoptosis (natural cell death), where they will begin to shrink and disappear.

CoolSculpting™ by ZELTIQ™ is not intended to be a weight-reduction program substitute for overweight individuals. Candidates that can benefit most from the CoolSculpting™ procedure are people near their ideal body weight who eat well and exercise regularly, but have pockets of fat that have not responded to a healthy lifestyle. These individuals are seeking long-lasting spot reduction for this specific area of fat, but they aren’t considering a surgical procedure with its expense, downtime, and safety risks.
