All women who undergo breast augmentation will inevitably undergo at least one more procedure in their lifetime. Breast implants are not meant to be life long devices. Sometime between 10 and 15 years after the initial implant procedure the majority of women will need an implant exchange.
There are a variety of reasons a woman will need an implant exchange. The majority of women elect to undergo an implant exchange procedure to change the size of their implants or upgrade to the latest implant material. There are however a number of reasons women must undergo a second implant procedure. Some of the most common reasons a woman may require a second procedure include capsular contracture and the build up of scar tissue. Implant revision procedures may also be performed for those who are simply not happy with the results they achieved in their first procedure.
